Nomina in Memoria

The premiere of *NOMINA IN MEMORIA* took place during the Spring Concert (on March 7) of 'Concordia' Oldebroek.

'Concordia' Oldebroek, winner of the 2025 Open Dutch Fanfare Championships, received a specially commissioned composition. I wrote this piece in memory of Ina Korenberg-van Loo. In Ina, Concordia lost a dear musical friend who regarded her fellow musicians as family. The work is based on the songs sung and played at her funeral. Central to the piece—both musically and thematically—is the hymn ‘Lichtstad met Uw paar’len poorten’ (City of Light with Your Pearly Gates). Also featured is ‘Nu gaan de bloemen nog dood’ (Now the flowers still die), which alludes to Ina’s role as a proud grandmother and her love for her grandchild—a song about vulnerability, hope, and love passed down from generation to generation. The melodies recur in various guises—sometimes clearly, at other times as mere fragments or shifts in timbre—allowing memories to surface and fade. Echoes of the other hymns weave around these core songs, as the work moves between stillness and intensity, between grief and comfort. This piece creates space for remembrance, connection, and gratitude: a musical tribute to the life of Ina Korenberg-van Loo.

“Because there is love, there is no ‘gone.’ You exist for all eternity.”
