This composition was commissioned by the Open Dutch Fanfare Championships (ONFK). This set test piece for the 4th Division of the 2026 ONFK is inspired by a poem by Sandro Dall’Angolo: 'Gloria e ombre del tempo'.
Gloria e ombre del tempo
O Time, who rules over days and ages,
You who build and you who break,
from stone and breath rises Your glory,
from earth and blood grows Your song.
Where abundance shines, shadow comes,
where beauty blooms, battle awakens.
The proud land is laid low,
fallen into silence, shrouded in ashes.
Dies irae, dies irae,
day of wrath, day of fire.
The gardens fall silent,
the streets decay,
night lays its cloak over life.
Yet Your sign descends:
butterflies on flowers,
flowers on graves.
A gentle kiss of light on death,
a voice from silence that says:
Remember!
Build!
Live on!
And behold - the dawn rises.
The sun tears the shadow,
emptiness gives way to strength.
The land rises, deeper rooted,
bearing wiser, grand in harmony.
O Song of Resurrection,
O Choir of Earth and Time,
O Symphony of Eternity -
You are our voice,
You are our light,
You are our life.
